Animals

Eating plant-based is kinder because it reduces animal suffering.

Adopting a plant-based diet is not just a matter of personal health or environmental responsibility—it’s a powerful act of compassion. In doing so, we take a stand against the widespread suffering of animals who are exploited and mistreated in today’s industrial farming systems.

Across the globe, in massive facilities often referred to as “factory farms,” animals with rich emotional lives and individual personalities are reduced to mere commodities. These sentient beings—capable of feeling joy, fear, pain, and affection [1]—are denied their most basic rights. Treated as production units, they are valued only for the meat, milk, or eggs they can produce, rather than the lives they inherently possess.

Outdated laws and industry norms continue to uphold systems that ignore the emotional and psychological well-being of these animals. In these environments, kindness is absent, and suffering is normalized. The natural behaviors and needs of cows, pigs, chickens, and countless others are systematically suppressed, all in the name of efficiency and profit.

But every animal, regardless of species, deserves to live a life free from cruelty—a life where they are respected and cared for, not exploited. For the billions of animals raised and killed each year for food, this remains a distant dream—one that cannot be realized without a fundamental change in how we view and treat them.

By choosing plant-based, we reject the notion that animals are ours to use. We affirm that their lives matter—not because of what they can give us, but because of who they are. It’s a simple but profound shift: from domination to compassion, from consumption to coexistence.

Making this choice is a meaningful step toward a more just, empathetic world for all living beings.

All animals deserve kindness and a good life, but millions raised for food still suffer under outdated practices. Each plant-based meal helps decrease the demand for animal products that sustain these harmful practices.

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Inadequate diet and care

Many farmed animals are fed diets that do not meet their natural nutritional needs, often designed solely to maximize growth or production rather than health. Alongside poor living conditions and minimal veterinary care, this neglect leads to illness, malnutrition, and suffering.

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Inhumane methods of slaughter

The process of slaughtering animals is frequently rushed and carried out without sufficient measures to minimize pain or distress. As a result, countless animals experience fear, pain, and prolonged suffering in their final moments, stripped of dignity and compassion.

Living in unnatural and confined conditions

Millions of animals raised for food endure life in overcrowded, cramped spaces where they cannot express natural behaviors such as roaming, foraging, or socializing. This prolonged confinement causes immense physical and psychological stress, severely compromising their well-being.

For many people, eating animals is a habit passed down through generations rather than a deliberate decision. By choosing compassion, you can embrace animals within your circle of kindness and help foster a more compassionate world.

Human

Eating plant-based is healthier because it’s rich in natural nutrients.

Animals aren’t the only ones who will thank you for eating plant-based meals. Your body will likely express its gratitude as well. Embracing a diet rich in whole, plant-based foods provides an abundance of essential nutrients—vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants—that support optimal health. Unlike many animal-derived products, plant foods are naturally low in saturated fats and cholesterol, which helps reduce the risk of chronic illnesses.

Numerous scientific studies have shown that diets centered around fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds can significantly improve heart health[3] , aid in weight management[4] , regulate blood sugar levels[5] , and lower the chances of developing conditions such as diabetes, certain cancers[6], and obesity. Beyond disease prevention, a plant-based diet also promotes better digestion[7], reduces inflammation[8], and boosts the immune system[9].

Choosing plant-based meals is not only a compassionate decision toward animals and the environment but also a powerful way to nourish your body and enhance your overall well-being.

What The Health

The health film that health organizations don't want you to see!

What the Health is the powerful follow-up to the award-winning documentary Cowspiracy. This groundbreaking film uncovers the deep-rooted corruption and collusion between government agencies and major industries—revealing how profit-driven systems are fueling chronic disease and costing us trillions in healthcare.

Both eye-opening and unexpectedly entertaining, What the Health is an investigative journey that challenges everything you thought you knew about health, nutrition, and the influence of big business on public well-being.

Avoid toxins

Meat and fish can contain harmful chemicals like chlorine, dioxins, methylmercury, and other pollutants. Removing animal products from your diet helps reduce exposure to these toxins and supports a cleaner, healthier lifestyle.

Reduce Zoonotic Disease Risk

Many infectious diseases like influenza, coronaviruses, and others spread through contact with animals or consuming animal products. Adopting a vegan diet reduces direct exposure to animal sources, lowering the risk of disease transmission to humans.

Reduce Antibiotic Use & Resistance

Livestock farming uses large amounts of antibiotics to prevent and treat diseases, which contributes to antibiotic-resistant bacteria and serious human health issues. Choosing a vegan diet reduces reliance on animal products and helps lower this risk, preserving antibiotic effectiveness.

Healthy Hormones

A vegan diet may help balance hormones naturally. Studies show that plant-based meals boost gut hormones that regulate appetite, blood sugar, and weight. Balanced hormones also support prevention of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Give Your Skin What it Needs to Glow

Your skin reflects what you eat. Antioxidant-rich plant foods—like fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts—help fight free radicals, support natural regeneration, and give your skin a healthy glow. Unlike animal products, these foods are easier to digest and nourish your skin from the inside out.

Boost Your Mood

A vegan diet may improve mental wellbeing. Studies show vegans often report lower stress and anxiety. Plant-based sources of omega-3—like flax seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and leafy greens—can naturally help boost your mood.

Plant-Based Diet and Health

According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a meat-free diet can contribute to:

Lowered cholesterol

Less risk of cancer

Less risk of heart disease

Less risk of diabetes

Lowered blood pressure

Healthy, sustainable, body weight management

Lower mortality rate from disease

Increased life expectancy

Planet

Eating plant-based is greener because it lowers environmental impact.

Switching to a plant-based diet can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 50% [10]. This is because producing plant-based foods generates far fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to meat and dairy. Livestock farming is responsible for nearly as much global warming as all the world’s transportation combined. A major contributor is methane—a gas produced by cows and sheep—which is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide (CO₂)[11].

More than 37% of the world’s habitable land is used for raising animals for food[12]. In the Amazon, nearly 80% of deforested land has been cleared for cattle grazing[13]. This land-use change contributes heavily to habitat destruction, which is one of the leading causes of wildlife extinction. In just the past 50 years, we’ve lost 60% of global wildlife populations, much of it due to the expansion of industrial animal farming.

The environmental cost doesn’t stop with land. Animal agriculture consumes about one-third of the planet’s freshwater supply[14]. For example, producing just 1 kilogram of beef requires over 15,000 liters of water, while many plant-based alternatives use a fraction of that. At the same time, over 1 billion people struggle to access clean water—highlighting the urgent need for a more sustainable food system.

Additionally, around 33% of global grain crops are used to feed farm animals, not people[15]. This grain could instead feed up to 3 billion people worldwide. By choosing more plant-based meals, we not only reduce environmental damage but also move toward a future where land, water, and food are more equitably and efficiently used—for both people and the planet.

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret

the film that environmental organizations don't want you to see!

Uncover the truth behind the most destructive industry facing the planet — and why no one wants to talk about it.

Cowspiracy is a feature-length documentary that uncovers the devastating environmental impact of industrial animal agriculture. It explores its connection to climate change, deforestation, ocean dead zones, freshwater depletion, and mass species extinction.

Animal agriculture is identified by the United Nations as one of the most significant contributors to serious environmental problems, including:

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Biodiversity loss [16]

Animal agriculture drives the conversion of forests, grasslands, and wetlands into grazing lands and feed crop monocultures. This destruction of natural habitats leads to a sharp decline in the variety of plant and animal species, disrupting delicate ecosystems and reducing global biodiversity.

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Species extinction [18]

As natural habitats are cleared to make way for livestock and their feed, countless species lose their homes and food sources. This rapid habitat loss is one of the primary causes of extinction worldwide, threatening the survival of endangered animals and plants.

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Rainforest destruction [20]

Rainforests like the Amazon are being cleared at alarming rates, primarily for cattle grazing and soy production (most of which feeds livestock, not people). This deforestation not only emits massive amounts of CO₂ but also destroys the planet’s richest ecosystems.

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Ocean ‘dead zones’ [22]

Runoff from animal farms—rich in nitrogen and phosphorus—enters rivers and eventually the ocean, creating low-oxygen "dead zones" where marine life cannot survive. These zones disrupt fisheries and marine ecosystems, threatening food security and biodiversity.

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Climate change [17]

Raising animals for food is a major source of greenhouse gases—especially methane from cows and nitrous oxide from manure and fertilizers. These emissions are significantly more potent than carbon dioxide, making animal agriculture a major driver of climate change.

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Fresh water scarcity [19]

Producing meat and dairy is highly water-intensive. From growing animal feed to providing drinking water for livestock and cleaning factory farms, animal agriculture consumes an enormous share of the world’s freshwater—while over a billion people lack reliable access to clean water.

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Loss of wildlife habitat [21]

Natural areas that once supported diverse wildlife are being transformed into farmland for livestock or crops like corn and soy. With nowhere to go, many wild animals face population decline, increased human-wildlife conflict, or extinction.

Why Go Plant-Based? August 2025

Air, water and soil pollution [23]

Industrial animal farming produces large volumes of waste that pollute air, rivers, groundwater, and soil. Ammonia, methane, antibiotics, and pathogens released into the environment harm human health, degrade natural resources, and increase antimicrobial resistance.
